Every PDF carries a small block of information that has nothing to do with its visible content: who authored it, when it was created and modified, and which software produced it. That last field routinely leaks an employer's name, a licensed username or an internal template.

Frequently asked questions
What does the “producer” field usually reveal?
The software and version that wrote the file — for example a specific PDF library, an office suite, or a scanner's firmware. Combined with the creator field it often identifies the organisation a document came from.
Does stripping metadata change the pages?
No. Only the document information dictionary is rewritten; every page is left exactly as it was.
Is this the same as the EXIF data in photos?
It plays the same role. Photos carry EXIF, including GPS coordinates; PDFs carry document info fields. If you're cleaning up files before sharing, the EXIF Remover tool covers the photo side.
