Most free PDF sites work the same way: you upload your document to someone else's server, it gets processed there, and you trust their retention policy. That is a strange thing to do with a contract, a medical record, a bank statement or an ID scan.
These tools do the work in your browser instead. The PDF is read into memory on your own machine, edited there, and handed back as a download. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no queue, no size limit imposed by a server, and no copy of your file sitting in someone's storage bucket afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
Are my PDFs uploaded anywhere?
No. Every tool in this section runs entirely on your device using WebAssembly builds of the same engines desktop software uses. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and they still work.
Is there a file size or page limit?
There is no artificial limit — the ceiling is your device's memory. Very large documents (hundreds of megabytes, or thousands of pages) will be slower and use a lot of RAM, and page thumbnails are capped at the first 300 pages to keep the browser responsive.
Do you add a watermark or require an account?
Neither. The output is your document with only the change you asked for, and there is no signup, no daily limit and no paid tier for these tools.
Can these tools open password-protected PDFs?
Yes, if you know the password. Every tool detects an encrypted file and asks for the password, then decrypts it in memory so you can work on it. Removing a password you don't know is not possible here — or anywhere legitimate.
